Disturbing surveillance footage shows the moment an out-of-control, hit-and-run driver mowed down a group of kids chatting on a suburban corner in Massachusetts.
The 6:30 p.m. Sunday crash in the Middlesex County town of Stoneham injured four children — ages 12 and 13 — and sent two of them to the hospital, NBC10 Boston reported.
Miraculously, no one was seriously injured.
Footage published by the news outlet shows the youngsters standing with their bicycles in front of a home near an intersection moments before a dark-colored Subaru Legacy suddenly veers off the road and into the group, knocking them to the ground.
The driver fled.
“I saw the headlights coming right at me,” one of the victims, Julia Cabral, told the news site, adding, “I’m kind of in shock how someone would hit four teenage kids and just like speed away.”
Another victim told NBC: “All we heard was the screech of the tires and they just turned toward us … We ended up scattered everywhere — we just go flying.”
James McKinnon’s home surveillance cameras captured the wild crash.
“Oh, my God, they just got hit by a car!” said McKinnon, who was home at the time and ran outside.
McKinnon said he ran and “grabbed the phone and ran out here and tried to calm the kids down before the fire department showed up.”
His SUV was also hit in the wreck, but McKinnon said that’s the least of his worries.
“The car can be replaced, I’m just glad all the kids are fine,” McKinnon said.
The Stoneham Police Department is encouraging anyone with information on the hit-and-run driver to come forward.
